Two George Mason U. students receive scholarships from Vienna PR firm.
Two students at George Mason University were awarded $10,000 each from Commonwealth Consultants, an independent public relations firm in Vienna.
The James and Joan Lamb Scholarships, named in honor of the company president's parents, enables disadvantaged youth to attend a four-year program at George Mason University in Fairfax.
Maria Dabrowski of Allentown, Pa.,, and Alicia Vipperman of Roanoke, Va., were chosen in August 2003 from a dozen candidates based on their leadership abilities and desire to impact their community.
Originally the company was only going to select one student, but the students were so outstanding, says Commonwealth Consultants Senior Vice President Bruce McLeod, the firm dug a little deeper and awarded it to both candidates.
To qualify, the student's parents or guardians had to earn less than $50,000 per year as reflected in their 2002 income tax return. The girls will receive the $10,000 over the course of their four years at school.
