Case Study: Trade Association
Assignment:
The trade association retained Commonwealth Consultants to organize and manage the association's first Capitol Hill Day. Commonwealth Consultants was asked to develop a targeted Capitol Hill strategy that would introduce the association and its members to key legislators who have influence over their industry.
Action:
- Commonwealth Consultants developed a targeted list of key representatives the association needed to meet.
- Commonwealth Consultants created materials on the association to give to the legislators.
- Commonwealth Consultants worked with the association to develop the key messages to deliver to the legislators during the Capitol Hill visits.
- Commonwealth Consultants contacted and scheduled meetings with the key Congressional offices including a premiere lunch speech by Chairman Bob Goodlatte, House Committee on Agriculture.
- Commonwealth Consultants provided a "turn-key" Capitol Hill Day event for the association including all hotel, catering, and transportation logistics.
Result:
- Twenty Congressional meetings were held with six member companies from the association participating in the Capitol Hill Day. Of those meetings, eleven were held with the actual Member of Congress.
- The trade association identified several key Congressional leaders who could be advocates for the association's issues.
- The association and their membership viewed the day as an unqualified success and a great beginning to developing a comprehensive public affairs strategy.
